Ennio Morricone | Rebranding

Ennio Morricone, considered one of the greatest composers in the world, has spent the past sixty years reinventing the sound of cinema, thanks to unforgettable soundtracks for movies like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in America or Cinema Paradiso, just to name a few.

To celebrate him, I decided to return the favour, reinventing, not the sound, but his brand identity.

Each cover has been designed keeping three constant elements, with the aim of creating a visual and conceptual format.
- Color, suggested by the emotions and sensations generated by the song, a process called Synaesthesia.
- Iconic frame of the movie where that song plays.
- Lines, visual representation of Morricone's music, able to wrap and charm the listener. The layout of the lines is suggested by the movements of Ennio's baton during his orchestral directions.

To advertise Morricone's tour, a station domination ADV will be made at the four main Milan metro stops.

Once the most strategic and representative stops of the underground line have been chosen, billboards will be created corresponding to the color of the underground lines. So I selected soundtracks that convey emotions corresponding to the colors of the lines.

The first deluxe is conceived for all those who love Ennio Morricone and want a collector's piece.
Inside the white cloth box with embossed logo, made to measure (30x30cm), there are products designed and made by me:
- Poster 60x60cm printed on heavy wight matte finish poster paper.
- A 70mm motion picture film strip containing four sequential frames from different movies with Morricone's soundtrack. They are mounted in a forex sheet with an open back.
- Special edition transparent vinyl, contained within two 0.5 cm thick plexiglass sheets. On the upper sheet there is my artwork, made in UV printing.

The second deluxe edition is dedicated to the historic collaboration between Ennio Morricone and the famous director, Sergio Leone. I transformed an old film reel into a collectible design object, sticking the most famous photos and movies frames of Ennio and Sergio.

I’d like to thank many people for the realization of this project: thanks to the Milan Cinema Museum for providing me with useful and unique materials: such as the vintage film reel and its case. Thanks to my professor Franz Degano, for believing in this complex project and, in conclusion, thanks to my grandfather, the first admirer of Morricone, and the one who sent me the passion for the Maestro. I'm sure he would be proud of me and my job.

I want to close my project with a video tribute to Ennio Morricone that reflects the arrival point of my creative process. Good vision!
